Misty - Consumer Information Specialist

In September of 2007, Misty came to work for Spectrum Generations as a Consumer Information Specialist for Somerset County. Her position started in part through a grant that Spectrum Generations received for the Somerset County Isolated Senior Initiative. Funding for this grant was provided by the United Way of Mid-Maine, the JTG Foundation, and the Plum Creek Foundation. The purpose of this grant is to help isolated seniors remain independent by assisting them with access to health and community services. This initiative takes three forms, public awareness, education, and partnership.

She has been working with families throughout the northern parts of the county as well as the more rural and remote areas, from Jackman to Mercer, Cambridge to New Portland. Misty has been giving informational presentations and meeting with individuals at local senior centers, town offices and libraries throughout Somerset County.

Misty can provide consumers with information about their health insurances, state and local programs and services, and general information that can assist consumers in promoting their financial and personal health. She is also able to offer assistance in filing applications for programs and services.

Misty brought with her to Spectrum Generations her years of experience working at Seniors Plus, Western Maine’s Area Agency on Aging. She worked with the Meals on Wheels program, taught a Matter of Balance class and facilitated a Matter of Health program there before moving to the social services department to provided outreach, information and referral services for Franklin and Northern Oxford counties as well as the city of Lewiston.

Misty states that she has been meeting lots of wonderful seniors and those that make a difference in the lives of seniors. Ultimately she hopes to reach out and connect families throughout Somerset County to already existing programs and services. Misty will continue working with many area senior groups, town offices, and local agencies and hopes to expand on this effort to make even more opportunities available to consumers within Somerset County.

When asked about the work she has done Misty stated, “I realized the importance of having a job where I made a difference. I knew that I had a worthwhile purpose for my life and a job that reflected that.”

As Winston Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Thank you to Spectrum Generations for giving me the opportunity to do both at once!

If you’d like to contact Misty, her office is in our Skowhegan Center and she can be reached at 474-8552, or 1-800-639-1553.
