George - Meals on Wheels Volunteer Driver

George Moore and his wife, Ada, live in Topsham and have been married for more than 52 years. They have 5 adult children, 13 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.

George’s career as an Engineer Tech, Registered Licensed Engineer, and Licensed Surveyor for a local engineering and surveying company spanned 44 years. After retiring from this employment, he was self-employed as a Consulting Engineer for 10 years, retiring in 2006.

During an average month, George drives 1,000 to 1,200 miles and contributes over 60 volunteer hours. “I decided to volunteer for Meals on Wheels when a request came to my church in Brunswick asking for volunteer drivers. Upon review of the operation of this program, I realized that this was a much-needed project,” said Moore. “At the time, Meals on Wheels needed someone to deliver the bulk meals from the kitchen to the distribution centers in Bath and Brunswick. I joined MOW in 1999; as I was semi-retired, I could set my own hours and volunteer driving the routes as needed. I have now been doing this for nine years.”
