Safe Medicine Disposal for ME Program

Waldo Community Center, Belfast

The Waldo County TRIAD, the Belfast Police Department, and the Waldo County Sheriff's Departmebnt are partnering with the SAFE MEDICINE DISPOSAL FOR ME PROGRAM to provide a means for folks of all ages to dispose of unwanted prescription medications.

The Belfast Police Department is now a site where citizens can stop by the police station and pick up a FREE medicine return kit.

The kit includes a free postage-paid envelope and instruction packet.  A person can take the kit home and package their unused and unwanted medicines in the envelope.  The envelopes are then returned by mail to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency to be safely destroyed.

If a Senior Citizen is not able to travel to the Police Station, a Belfast Police Officer will deliver a free medicine return kit to Belfast residents or a Waldo County Sheriff’s Deputy will deliver a free medicine return kit to homes in outlying areas of Waldo County.

This program is absolutely free.  The Safe Medicine Disposal for ME Program has a toll free helpline at: 1-866-637-9743.
