Register for Leader Training for Chronic Disease Self Management 2/24/10
(Rockland -- February 4, 2010) Spectrum Generations is sponsoring a free, 4-day leader training for the Living Well for Better Health Chronic Disease Self Management workshop series. Training will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on May 6th, 7th, 13th and 14th at the Island Institute in Rockland.
The Living Well for Better Health program is a series of six, 2 ½ hour classes held once a week for six weeks. People with different chronic health problems attend together. Program participants demonstrate significant improvements in symptom management, communication, exercise, general health, fatigue, disability, and social/role activities limitations.
The workshop is led by pairs of leaders who have chronic health conditions themselves, or take care of someone with a chronic condition. The leaders follow a structured workshop outline that builds the confidence of participants to manage their own health condition.
Spectrum Generations provides ongoing support and class materials to trained leaders.
Characteristics necessary to become a leader include being comfortable facilitating and speaking in front of groups. Once training is completed, leaders then co-facilitate one or more workshops within six months.
Leaders who have facilitated the Living Well for Better Health workshops say they have experienced “a more positive feeling about their health condition”, as well as improved “confidence in managing their own chronic health condition”. Leaders also say they experience “a sense of accomplishment” and enjoy “making a positive difference in the lives of workshop participants”.
