Harold "Hank" Goodwin - Volunteer Extraordinaire
The Muskie Center in Waterville counts themselves fortunate for the incredible contributions of volunteers like Hank Goodwin. A 28 year career veteran of education, Hank is a natural volunteer and leader with a giving, caring spirit, and loved by all who know him. Hank Goodwin has been making a difference at Spectrum Generations’ Muskie Community Center for more than six years. Originally starting his volunteer career as the Meals on Wheels driver, it didn’t take him long to find other ways to contribute his time and talents. He has been a member of the center’s Local Advisory Council for more than 4 years, and currently serves as Chairman of the Senior Advisory Council representing the centers with the Agency’s Board of Directors . . . all the while still doing his Meals on Wheels deliveries to feed Maine’s homebound and disabled. Sitting around is not for this man! He is out to make a difference in any way he can. One of his proudest achievements is the assistance he has been able to give for the past 23 years helping others on the road to recovery from alcoholism – serving as the Vice President of the Central Maine Recovery Group for the past four years. When asked why he volunteers so much of his time he will tell you it’s because it makes him feel good. People are always telling us how wonderful he is. “I can’t believe all the things he does to help people,” says one. “He doesn’t do it for recognition, he’s humble,” says another. In his spare time Hank helps to facilitate our weekly Cribbage group, collects Civil War post cards, is a big history buff, and still finds time to read. He also loves to fish in the summer on his pontoon boat, and spend time at his camp in Aroostook County. Still on his “to-do” list is taking a Trans-Canadian train through the Rockies – and there is no doubt in our minds that this “get it done kind of guy” will make it happen! This “all around good guy” is not just an irreplaceable part of our volunteer team here at the Muskie Center, he is part of our Spectrum Generations extended family. Thank you Hank – for all that you do.
