Getting Ready for Medicare Part D … Again!
Medicare plans change every year and so may your needs. That is why it is important to do a check up on your Medicare prescription drug coverage each year to make sure that you are getting the most value for you health care dollar. Now is the time to consider the plan you are in and make sure it will continue to meet your needs for 2009.
Each year CMS offers an Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) from November 15 through December 31. During this period Medicare beneficiaries can either switch plans or join a Part D plan for the first time.
Make sure you understand your options and make the choice that is best for you:
- Gather the list of prescription drugs you purchase regularly.
- Review the information that your plan mails you this fall or ask them how your plan will change next year.
- Research the other plans that service your area and do some comparison shopping to see what plan can cover your medicines at a lower cost or with fewer restrictions. Make a plan decision before December 31, 2008.
- Take the time to evaluate your current needs against your current plan. If your plan no longer meets your needs, consider changing to another plan.
The internet is one way to start. Web sites such as www.MyMedicareMatters.org and www.Medicare.gov provide information and tools to help consumers and caregivers evaluate prescription drug plans.
Another way is to call on Spectrum Generations. We offer Medicare Prescription Drug Plan counseling for Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers. Spectrum Generations will continue to offer appointments for consumers at each of our seven central Maine locations. Enrollment Clinics will begin in November. Clinic appointments will allow consumers to review their current medications with a trained and qualified advocate who can then help them decide which plans best cover their needs.
