If someone you know has not enrolled in health insurance through the new Health Insurance Marketplace, there is still time. The deadline to sign up for health insurance coverage for this year is March 31st, 2014.
If you have Medicare, you’re already covered and don’t need to do anything; people who have insurance through their employer or a private plan can keep that coverage if they want to. If someone has no insurance and they choose not to enroll into Obama Care they will have to pay a penalty next year when they file taxes (if they don’t normally have to file taxes they will still have to pay a penalty).
For more information, or to enroll, go to www.enroll207.com. Enroll207 is a project of the Maine Health Access Foundation (MeHAF), the state’s largest health care foundation. MeHAF's mission is to promote access to quality health care, especially for those who are uninsured and underserved, and improve the health of everyone in Maine. The purpose of enroll207 is to connect Mainers to certified assisters who can help review new options for health insurance through the Maine Health Insurance Marketplace. If you have questions about your options, use the Find Help tool (at enroll207) to find certified assisters in Maine to help you in person or over the phone. Assistance is free, confidential, and available near where you live or work.
To learn more about the Marketplace, the enroll207 website also has information about workshops and talks being scheduled all around the state. If you live in central Maine and would like assistance with signing up for insurance through the new Health Insurance Marketplace please call Spectrum Generations, the Central Maine Area Agency on Aging and Aging and Disability Resource Center, at 1-800-639-1553 and we will be happy to provide you with contact information in your area to a Navigator who can help you find a plan that works for you.
