An Appeals Specialist (Julie, Kathy, Lee or Patty) will answer the phone and work with you.  The Medicare Part D Unit is based in Augusta, but helps people all over Maine by phone.  (You do not have to come in.)  There is no charge for this help.  The Medicare Part D Unit has a contract with the state to help peop0le on limited incomes with Medicare Part D.

The Medicare Part D Unit can help you with many different things.

For example, if you pay more than $3.30 for any of your medications, the Appeals Specialist will see if you quality for a program to lower your costs.  If you qualify, the Appeals Specialist will help you apply and make sure the program starts working as soon as possible.

Or, if your doctor prescribes a medication that your Medicare Part D Plan says it will not cover, the Appeals Specialist will work with your doctor to get it covered, or to get your another medication that is just as good.

Call the Medicare Part D Unit if you get a letter you do not understand from your Medicare Part D Plan, from Medicare, or from the state of Maine.  An Appeals Specialist should be able to explain what the letter means.
