Planning Ahead

Often people need help navigating the maze of choices available when planning for their future; they have questions such as:

Where will I live?
If I stay home, is there help available?
How will I pay for services?

Let us help guide you through this process.

Advance Directives

Under Maine law, the term “advance directive” means any spoken or written instructions you give about the health care you want if a time comes when you are too ill to decide. Advance Directives help ensure your wishes about medical care are granted.

Protect your right to control your health care decisions – put it in writing!

Before you go to the hospital, take the time to talk with your family, friends, and physicians about the medical care you want should you become seriously ill and not able to communicate.

Use this link to Maine Legal Services for the Elderly to print an Advance Directive form.

If you have questions about completing the form, call Spectrum Generations at 1-800-639-1553, TTY 1-800-464-8703 and an Aging and Disability Resource Counselor can provide you with assistance.

Financial Planning

It’s not always about investing, it’s also about keeping what you already have.

If you’re looking for legal assistance to plan your financial future and would like to find an Elder Law Attorney, visit Legal Services for the Elderly to search for referrals, or call their helpline at 1-800-750-5353.

Long Term Care Planning

Sitting down with an Options Counselor can help you explore long-term support options. Having a dialogue and figuring out what your options are for long-term support services now can make your future a lot brighter and smoother.
