Please join us to help sponsor our ramp, railings, deck furniture, heaters, and shade canopies as we work together to “deck out” this beautiful community gathering space at the Cohen Community Center. Participating in Deck-it-Out through one of these sponsorship levels gives you the opportunity to provide a piece of high-quality, long-lasting furniture or other needed items and have your name, business name, a dedication or memorial posted to the furniture or deck location.

Thank you for your continued support of the Cohen Community Deck Project!

The Cohen Community Center in Hallowell is a thriving hub of activity offering an Adult Day program,
classes on healthy living/health screenings, technology, and an ever-changing calendar of fun
recreational activities for all generations!

Growing in popularity is the social dining experience!

Social (congregate) nutrition programs were first established in 1972 as part of the Older Americans Act
for the purpose of serving healthy meals while presenting opportunities for social engagement, health
and wellness activities, and meaningful volunteer roles – all of which contribute to the overall health
and well-being of older adults. Research from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
Administration for Community Living (ACL) states that:

“46% of Congregate Nutrition Program participants live alone,” and therefore gathering at social
settings, sharing a meal and spending time outdoors with others, combats the effect of social isolation
and loneliness for our regular diners.

The Cohen Deck Project is a way to serve the community with dignity and respect while providing
something a bit nicer and upscale. The deck, as a meaningful gathering space, will be an incredible
resource for our older community members and others to enjoy. The deck will offer increased capacity
at the center and will provide program-sustaining funds as an event rental opportunity.
