Join Us
Volunteers are a crucial part of Spectrum Generations’ success and service delivery. We offer a wide variety of volunteer opportunities - there's something for everyone! Join us today!
Adult Day and Community Support Services (ADCSS) is a program that runs in four of our centers. We provide a safe environment for differently-abled adults during the day while their caregivers are working.
Activities Specialist – Volunteers assist with or lead crafts, puzzles, music time, or other fun activities consumers may enjoy. Great opportunity for creatives!
Outings Assistant – Volunteers assist staff taking consumers on short trips in the community for varying outings such as museum explorations or hikes on a local trail. Great opportunity for the compassionate adventurer!
ADCSS Assistant – Volunteers assist with anything from meal times to craft time to just chatting with a consumer. Great opportunity for a laid back person with experience in the differently-abled community.
This program requires a very special volunteer who understands the need for compassion and kindness in all interactions with our consumers. Volunteers with patience and an upbeat personality are encouraged to apply!
Volunteers in the Money Minders program support older adults in managing and maintaining their personal finances, helping them remain independent and financially secure.
Responsibilities may include assisting with creating and maintaining a budget, organizing and understanding bills, and providing support with billing questions or disputes as needed. Volunteers offer guidance in a respectful and confidential manner while building trust and confidence with participants.
Volunteers in the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) help Medicare beneficiaries understand and navigate their healthcare options, coverage, and benefits. They also support efforts to identify and report Medicare fraud through the Senior Medicare Patrol program.
Responsibilities may include assisting with Medicare 101 classes, answering questions about coverage options, providing one-on-one Medicare counseling during enrollment periods, helping with applications for Medicare Savings Programs, and supporting outreach efforts such as health fairs and community events.
All SHIP volunteers receive free training, along with ongoing support and mentoring throughout the certification process. Volunteers can choose their level of involvement and the types of assistance they provide.
Volunteers lead or support health and wellness classes that promote active, healthy aging within the community. Classes may include topics such as fitness, nutrition, chronic disease management, or other wellness-focused programs.
Facilitators help create an engaging, supportive environment while sharing knowledge and encouraging participants to build healthy habits and improve overall well-being.
Volunteers provide front desk support by greeting visitors and answering incoming calls during center hours. They help create a welcoming environment while assisting with basic administrative tasks as needed.
Volunteers assist with light cleaning and janitorial tasks to help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all participants and staff.
Volunteers support meal preparation for both congregate dining and home-delivered meals. They may assist with food distribution, serving meals, and helping with cleanup, creating a welcoming and supportive dining environment for participants.
Members of our Advisory Council and Board of Directors play a vital role in guiding and strengthening Spectrum Generations’ mission to develop and coordinate community-based services for older adults across our service area.
In these leadership volunteer roles, individuals help shape programs and priorities by offering insight, oversight, and community perspective. Responsibilities may include supporting the development and administration of the area plan, participating in public engagement efforts, representing the interests of older adults, and reviewing policies, programs, and initiatives that impact those we serve.
These groups are made up of dedicated individuals, including older adults, community members, service providers, local leaders, and professionals from both the public and private sectors. Together, they help ensure the agency remains responsive, effective, and aligned with community needs.
Volunteers in our Meals on Wheels program help ensure homebound individuals receive nutritious meals and a friendly connection in their community.
Meals on Wheels Driver – Deliver meals to homebound individuals in your local community. This role is available at all Spectrum Generations locations and offers a meaningful way to make a direct impact.
Meals on Wheels Packer – Assist with preparing meals for delivery by packing food and organizing supplies. This role is based in our Hallowell and Waterville locations.
