Chances are you know someone who has fallen or who is afraid of falling. A Matter of Balance is a proven program designed to help people manage concerns about falls and increase physical activity. Spectrum Generations is looking for volunteers to help provide this program.
A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls is conducted in 8 two-hour sessions and uses group discussion, problem–solving strategies, videos and gentle physical exercise. Older adults learn positive coping methods to reduce fear of falling and remain active and independent.
We are currently seeking coaches to lead these sessions, and help participants become more confident about managing falls by believing that they can increase their strength, find ways to reduce falls, and protect themselves if they do fall.
Volunteer coaches should feel comfortable communicating to a number of people, and possess excellent interpersonal skills, be dependable and enthusiastic, and be able to lead low to moderate level exercise.
Training will be held at the Cohen Community Center, 22 Town Farm Road, Hallowell on November 2 and 3, 2017, from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
If you would like more information or you would like to register, please contact Lyn Neiz, program coordinator at (207) 930-8082 or [email protected]
