Our volunteers are a group of special people which span all ages and all backgrounds who volunteer their time to help others and find personal fulfillment. Summary of Volunteer Options:

Meals on Wheel Assessor or Driver: Play a supporting role in our life-saving Meals on Wheels Program. Assessors collect pertinent information including observations about general health, physical condition, frailty, mental health problems, or domestic conditions. As a driver, you will be using your vehicle to deliver meals to homebound seniors and adults with disabilities as well as  providing a check-in and smiling face to brighten their day.

Aging and Disability Resource Center Assistant: With our full training and scripts, you will be dispensing information on aging and disability assistance and referrals via phone inquires and providing administrative assistance to staff members. You also have the option to lead or provide assistance at our Medicare For Everyone Clinics at our community centers. Whether your talents lie in speaking, teaching, counseling, or administrative tasks, we have the right opportunity for you! If interested in volunteering for this program, please contact Craig Patterson at 207-607-4405.

Senior Medicare Patrol: After full training, you will educate consumers about Medicare and Maine Care and how they can help identify and reduce errors, fraud, waste and abuse. You will have the chance to make a difference in the lives of your family, friends, and neighbors by helping people in your community make better informed decisions about health care coverage.  If interested in volunteering for this program, please contact Craig Patterson at 207-607-4405.

Friendly Visitor: Provide companionship, conversation and support to lonely, older, homebound persons in their home. Enjoy going for a short walk, playing cards or other mutually agreed upon activities such as letter reading and writing. You will help an older person retain their independence, maintain their emotional well being, and maintain a higher quality of life through social interaction.

Activity Planner:  Stay active, meet new people, expand your horizons and make a difference in your community! Share your hobbies, talents or crafts by leading a group activity at one of our community centers or assist in the planning of activities and events. Let our consumers appreciate you! Activity aides needed in our Adult Day Health Program.

Driver: Travel along county roads and to exciting destinations as a volunteer driver or drive our activity van for planned field trips. Help our Nutrition Program by picking up food donations from local grocery stores. On-call drivers also needed for our Adult DayBreak & Nutrition programs.

Share Your Talent: Musicians, artists, clowns, balloon sculptors, and more are needed. Bring smiles and laughter to our consumers! Share your special skill or craft in an active senior day care environment.

Kitchen Assistant: Behind every good cook there are helpers ready to do whatever is asked of them. If you are you interested in helping to create excellent food and assisting our skilled & fun kitchen staff, be a volunteer kitchen assistant.

Wait staff, hostesses, and serving assistants: Socialize in our dining rooms assisting with our Social Dining program. Wait staff, hostesses, and serving assistants are needed- especially those who are willing to come on short notice. Helping with set up and clean up is most appreciated.

Receptionist - Center Support: If you enjoy answering phones and helping with all the busy details that keep an office efficient, then our Receptionist - Center Support position is for you! Meet new people and use your talents to help us better assist consumers.

Group Leaders/Facilitators/Coaches:  Spectrum Generations offers training for adults interested in facilitating its Matter of Balance and Living Well for Better Health/Chronic Pain Workshop classes.  Volunteers must successfully complete the training for the respective program, and follow a manual that is provided.  Good communication and interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, dependability and a willingness to lead small groups of adults is also required.  Click here for more information.

Money Management Program: Do you or someone you know need help? This program offers money management services to individuals with lower incomes. Older adults and people with disabilities work with trained and bonded volunteers to help balance their checkbooks, write checks for signing, organize their mail and or develop a budget. Participants sign their own checks and retain full control of their bank accounts and other assets. If interested in volunteering for this program, please contact Craig Patterson at 207-607-4405.

Adult DayBreak Volunteer Assistant: Assist with planned sessions of therapeutic activities and provide general assistance to the program's frail, disabled and cognitively impaired adults in our Skowhegan, Waterville, Hallowell, or Belfast community center.
